Euro Trip: 90 Day Budget Report
If you’re new to this blog, click here to learn about the idea behind the website and my recent Euro Trip.
Wow, time has been flying by! Can’t believe it has already been 2 months (62 days to be exact) since my last budget update. 90 days since my departure from California to London. In case you missed it, I did explain why my updates have been so infrequent in a prior post.
Where have you been?
These last three months have been a whirlwind! Although spending approximately a week in each country doesn’t make one an expert, it is enough time get a general feel for the area. Sort of like a sampler platter of the best of each country. It’s really given me a nice outline of return trips I’d like to make in the future. Some areas I’d like to cover more extensively and some I probably won’t return to at all.
In total, we have visited 12 new countries since departing London for Berlin.

Remember that these running totals include pre-trip travel expenses, which are often overlooked. These are important to budget for when planning a round the world or extended trip to anywhere. Travel expenses refers to the cost incurred if you only plan to travel (most of you) and not build a website or blog your travels.
This refers to the expenses incurred if you (like me) would also like to blog your travels on your own website. If you’d like to upload and back-up your photos, run Lightroom, etc. Remember that the website total also includes the upfront cost of a laptop, domain, web host and SSL.
July 19th – September 18th (62 days)
Update 3: Travel Expenses
- Lodging: $1410.94
- Food: $603.76
- Transportation: $978.67
- Activities: $489.68
- Misc: $74.86
- Alcohol: $81.43
Update 3: Website Balance
- Adsense: +$9.21
- YouTube: +$0.24
- Amazon: $0
Note: The above numbers refer to the 62 days between my previous budget update. The totals for the entire trip are found below.
So, here’s what the finances look like after 3 months (90 days) of travel.
Travel Expenses: -$4465.79 ($49.6/day)
Website Balance: -$1845.12 (+$9.45 from previous)
Combined Balance (Travel expenses + Website Balance): -$6310.91
Well, I obviously need to get to writing more often. Averaging roughly $4 month from the website isn’t going to put a dent in these travel expenses! Looks like I’ll have to start getting up earlier (hmm, nah) or staying up later (that’s more like it) to make time for it. What does everyone think of the total travel expenses so far? More or less than what you imagined it would cost? Any further questions regarding the totals?
Once again, thanks for reading!
